About Josie McKinney

Josie is a Mi’kmaw and Wolastoqiyik leader, lawyer, and educator with nearly 20 years of experience leading complex organizations through change, strengthening governance, and building culturally competent, equity-driven systems.

As Nova Scotia’s first dedicated human trafficking prosecutor, Josie built the province's first human trafficking prosecution model in consultation and collaboration with partners across government and in community. She has also co-authored and implemented first-in-Canada policies on the fair treatment of Indigenous and African Nova Scotian peoples in criminal prosecutions.

During her time as Acting Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Status of Women Office, Josie managed issues with significant legal, reputational, and human impact. She advised at a senior level on pressing issues, including gender-based violence, equity, and workforce improvements.

As a seasoned educator and public speaker, Josie has designed and delivered training for professionals, executives, community organisations, and post-secondary institutions across Canada. Her approach blends practical leadership experience with deep expertise in systems design, adult education, and collaborative change.

In 2022, Josie received the Award for Mi’kmaq and Indigenous Excellence in the Legal Profession.

Josie brings a thoughtful, strategic, and values-driven approach to consulting, helping organizations align their people, processes, and purpose to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.
